SUMMARY:Celina Eceiza: A material called Earth\, Volume 1: The life of corners
DESCRIPTION:At the Art Gallery of Burlington (AGB)\, art is not something that exists outside of the present moment\, but is a way of living through it. We are drawn to practices that bend the binary between contemporary art and craft and work with those who find criticality in the handmade by challenging how material traditions and technologies are perceived. It is this spirit that makes Celina Eceiza’s work and Sylvie Fortin’s curatorial practice feel so at home here. Both move fluidly between registers\, gathering in collaborators\, blurring the boundaries between making and thinking\, and insisting that no creative act is ever singular. A material called Earth is\, in every sense\, a natural extension of how we believe art and craft can be lived.

SUMMARY:Chukwudubem Ukaigwe  Locutions: Fragments out of a Deluge
DESCRIPTION:In Locutions: Fragments out of a Deluge\, Chukwudubem Ukaigwe builds an exhibition around the question of containment: what things carry\, what they cannot\, and what leaks through regardless. A deluge is the feeling of being overwhelmed by too much at once: too much history\, too much city\, too much sound\, too much knowing. This exhibition is a fragment of that. A cross-section. The part that spills over.  \nUkaigwe works across paint\, ceramics\, sound\, video\, and printmaking\, treating making itself as a form of listening. The ceramic vessels at the centre of this exhibition were built by stacking bowl on top of bowl\, adhered together with clay slip. Their surfaces swell and crack open\, and cone shapes burst from their rims like interrupted speech. They are shaped the way communities are shaped: by pressure\, by accumulation\, by the decision to keep building on top of and around each other.
