In Spite of Ourselves An Evening of John Prine

October 9 @ 7:30 PM
$39.50 – $44.50

John Prine is widely cited as one of the most influential songwriters of his generation. Essentially creating the americana and roots genres of music with his mixture of country, contemporary and folk music.

The four-time Grammy Award winner & Lifetime Achievement recipient was known for humorous lyrics about love, life, and current events, as well as his serious songs with social commentary and songs that recollect sometimes melancholy tales from his life.

In Spite of Ourselves brings together some of Canada’s finest songwriters and friends of various genres to share stories and songs about the fabulous John Prine.

Blair Packham
Blair, one of Canada’s finest songwriters, writes songs of joy, triumph, heartbreak and loss. Leader of the JUNO-nominated band The Jitters, he had the pleasure of seeing John Prine up close at age 13 at Massey Hall.

Johnny Max
Johnny Max is one of those entertaining entertainers and has been the leader of the twice JUNO-nominated Johnny Max Band, for over 30 years. A long-time fan of John Prine, this is Johnny’s project and hopes that everyone will remember how great a songwriter John Prine was.

Kirsten Jones
JUNO & CCMA-nominated, award-winning alt/country/roots/ americana songwriter with two albums on her resume, along with the many hundreds of shows that she has performed across Canada, Kirsten is an engaging live performer, bringing both introspection & humour to her shows. A newcomer to embracing John Prine’s songs, she will bring the house down.

Bill Craig
Bill is originally from Ireland and has been playing in Canada for over 40 years. An accomplished performer and songwriter, he was a member of Edward Bear and the Rovers, as well as his own long career as part of The Foggy Duo. His baritone will shake the halls with his versions of John Prine songs.
